On the 12th and 13th February, Head of Business Events at Meet Bristol & Bath, Helen Applin attended the VisitBritain Business Events Association Conference, “Bid for Today, Bid for Tomorrow” at the ICC Wales and The Celtic Collection. Visit Britain's Head of Business Events, Paul Black kicked off the conference highlighting the importance of partnerships in hosting association congresses to deliver growth to our key business sectors across Britain. The conference was packed full of insightful content some of which has been summarised below.

Positive Impact of Events

The VisitBritain Business Events team introduced the VisitBritain BE Impactful Framework©, launched in December 2024 in partnership with MEET4IMPACT and Global Destination Sustainability Movement (GDS-Movement). We discussed how association congresses alongside PCOs and destinations can deliver an important impact to the host city and regions across 70 possible event indicators. We also heard from the VisitBritain Business events team about how they used the framework to deliver this conference, embedding financial, natural, intellectual, cultural and human indicators across the event, working in partnership with their destination hosts and team at ICC Wales.

Emerging Technologies

On the second day of the conference, we explored the future of bidding, how emerging technology and artificial intelligence will impact on venue sourcing, content creation and real time impact assessment. We heard from speakers at the forefront of innovation sharing their insights on AI and events, followed by peer-to-peer breakout sessions to share challenges and opportunities in the industry.

The event concluded with a Speakers on the Spot session, a lively opportunity for all of the delegates to interrogate key content areas discussed, dissected and workshopped across the two-day conference!

We were delighted to attend this important event and look forward to next one in 2026!
