Residents, and visitors to Bath, are being advised about a delay to the start of the Bath Artisan Market which was due to open tomorrow (Saturday November 20).

Organisers of the event, which attracts thousands of visitors to the city’s Queen Square every Christmas, today apologised for the delay which will now see the market open later next week as part of Bath at Christmas.

Catherine Rapley said: “In the interest of public safety and security we are currently working with the police and the council to address a number of issues and hope to open our hugely popular Christmas event later next week.

“We are informing all our traders and sincerely apologise for the very late notice for this decision but the safety and security of everyone either trading or visiting is our primary focus.”

A joint statement from Bath & North East Somerset Council and Avon and Somerset Police said: “A recent safety advisory group, made of police, council, fire and ambulance services met to discuss, with the organisers, the final details of the event.  On the advice of SAGE the organisers have decided to postpone the start of the market for a few days in order to satisfy some safety and security issues. We will be working with them over the coming days to makes sure the site can open for everyone to enjoy later in the week.”

Bath Artisan Market runs until December 19.
