The past year has taught us that it is important to take time for our mental health and to remind ourselves to slow down and improve our wellbeing. Being outside was a big help to people during lockdown with not much else to do and we want to encourage people to continue spending time in nature, as we all know that it increases our health, both mental and physical.
With that in mind, this summer, we want Westonbirt Arboretum to be a place you can visit to boost your wellbeing. MIND, the mental health charity, suggests there are 5 steps you can take to improve your mental health and wellbeing: taking notice, connecting, being active, learning, and giving.
Using these themes, Westonbirt has packed the summer full of fun activities to get you outside and in nature. You can come and spot the Gruffalo and his friends with the new Gruffalo Spotters Trail in Silk Wood. Use the app to interact with the characters amongst the trees. Or pop into the Old Arboretum and hunt down the Gruffalo Sculptures, can you find them all?
Find our gazebo in Silk Wood throughout August for a variety of family fun activities. You can make journey sticks of your adventures around the arboretum and collect natural treasures to tell others about your day of exploration. We have mini discovery, art and play challenges or if you fancy something less active, we have a session on creating poems after spending some mindful time observing an incredible tree you love. Why not take our miniature figures and create your own miniature woodland scenes around the arboretum at the end of August, let us know what you find.
To finish it all off, we have over 50 activities with printable sheets available for you and your family, to do at home or to bring on your trip. Make a natural mandala, create a dance inspired by trees or go on a bug hunt; be one with nature and breathe in the fresh air, with our wellbeing activities.
Whether it is having fun with your children or grandchildren, taking your dogs for a walk, going for a run or a relaxed walk with your loved ones, we want to help you boost your wellbeing, in a way that works for you.
